While watching Don Henley (coolest man alive) sitting behind his drums Sat. night I started to wonder how history will view the Eagles in the scheme of modern music. My opinion is that, were we able to jump ahead 50 years or so, the Eagles will be recognized as one of the finest, most talented bands of our time. That being said, let's get down to how they were Sat. night. As for the music, FANTASTIC as always. They did 29 songs and it still wasn't enough for me.
The set list was almost identical to all the others on this tour. The only difference was that Hotel Calif. was the only song in the 1st encore. Heartache Tonight & LITFL were moved to the 2nd encore. Also, sadly for me because I REALLY wanted to hear the two new songs, the weren't done either. I was hoping since it was so close to the end of this leg of the tour they would honor us with the new songs, but it just wasn't to be I guess. I've been to 11 Eagles concerts (starting with Hell Freezes Over in '94) so I knew what to expect. However, the 4 people with me (my sis-in-law Linda, her pal Debbie & my pals Cheryl & Neal) had never been to an Eagles concert and I had told them that they were in for a fantastic concert. After the show, they all agreed that it certainly had been a great show.
OK folks, now for the BAD NEWS. It seemed to me that there was some trouble brewing in "the Eagles Nest". Oh, the music was as great as always, except that Don's voice showed some strain on Wasted Time, tho he recovered nicely on Heartache Tonight and was able to hit those georgeous high notes as usual. The problem was the interplay betweem the band members. They did NOT say one word to each other during the whole first set. Also, the looks that passed between Glenn, Joe & Tim looked rather cold to me. Tim didn't crack a smile during the whole concert which is very, very odd for a guy who is usualy so happy. Someone commented that they thought he looked like he might be feeling sick, but I'm thinking that there might be more to it than that. Also, during All She Wants to Do Is Dance, I don't think that Glenn was even on stage, let alone doing any dancing. As for Don, he had that "super-determined" look he gets that seemed to say "I'll get the hell through tonight & the NY concert and then I'm gettin away from these guys for awhile". I have my theories on what might be going on, but I'll keep them to myself. The fact remains, however, that the Eagles didn't appear to be "happy campers" Sat. night.
Individual band members did say a few things to the audience, tho even here, they kept the conversation to a minimum. Glenn mentioned that he was wearing his yellow "Liberace" jacket during the first set but that they would all change from their suits before the second set so that they could really do some serious rock & rolls songs. They did all change to jeans for the second set except for Joe who wore camoflage pants. And, of course, Don was wearing those same old brown boots that he has worn FOREVER. The only other times that they said anything to the audience were when Glenn devoted Lyin Eyes to his first wife "Plaintiff", and when Don explained how he wrote Hole in the World right after Sept 11 because they were all unable to fly to get to the studio to start their new CD and he needed to write something to get out his frustration over the whole situation. Also, Joe made an offhand comment to Glenn right before putting on the helmet cam, something to the effect "Ya see, Glenn, ya put the hat on your head and it takes pictures when the light comes on". The only time Tim spoke all night was when someone held up a "Happy Birthday Teresa" sign. Time asked which person was Teresa, wished her a happy birthday, and then said "OK, you can but the sign down now".
So, to sum it up, it looked to me like Don, Glenn, Joe and Tim are running out of steam these days. Thus, my advice to you folks out on the West Coast is to be sure to see the Eagles when they come your way in the fall. It might just turn out that this "Farewell I" tour might actually become a real farewell tour. I sure hope that I'm wrong, but, I'll tell you this, I've seen Don sing Desperado at least 20 times (between Eagles tours & solo tours)and Sat. night was the first time that it made me cry to hear it. I just had this uncanny feeling that it might be the last time I'll see him do it (at least the last time I'll see him do it with the Eagles). Again, I LOVE the Eagles, especially Don, but they won't be touring forever. So,if you have the chance to go see the Eagles this fall---GO SEE THEM WHILE YOU STILL HAVE THE CHANCE BECAUSE THEY ARE THE BEST DARN BAND IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!

A few comments about last nite's show, first, Glenn and Tim were both a little flat, I'm not sure to fatigue or what, Don, Joe and Steuart carried the show, Glenn even skipped his epilleptic siezure/Curley Shuffle during Dance, the good news is that Don's voice sounded better than I had heard him all tour, strong and rarely cracking, a few minor items, " all the debutantes in Jersey baby " as if they've ever heard of such things, and DH always acknowledges when they are in a casino down, "all she wants to do is dance, and gamble", Joe wore a guitar strap made out of police tape (police line, do not cross), place was packed, I had thought maybe Springsteen might show up to return the favor Don did him in Dallas, but alas, it wasnt to be, a somewhat new arrangement to Funk 49, (glenn and joe jamming where glenn had his mini solo), glad I went, lots of fun, and I will catch you next time 3K !

I went to the AC show last night. As usualit was great - not much else to report that hasn't been said several times. They did seem tired - still sounded great - but tired. Glen didn't do his usual dance during ASWTDID but was at the keyboard. We were lucky to get 5th row, but all the way over on the side - when Henly was drumming the stupid symbols completely blocked my view which is one of my favorite sites!! Oh well! Glenn had the usual jokes - plantiff, credit card and regarding the pink jacket - he said it was a gift from Elton - something he had purchased at Liberace (sp?) garage sale.
I'm sure they are all glad it's almost over after tomorrow & get home to a somewhat "normal" life.
Zermie - I left you number home - hope you had fun!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a show, these guys just continue to AMAZE
The show was the same as previous shows on this tour minus the 2 new songs, but all of the old songs along with the solo stuff was just great
Also, Stewart Smith needs to get more recognition, this guy is just awesome, you would never know this guy was not one of the original members.
Thanks again guys for an unbelievable show, can't wait for Farewell 2 ,3 , 4, 5 , etc.
