Top 5 Questions

We thought we'd post the answers from the Top Five Most Frequently Asked questions here at the front of the blog in order to help you better.

Q  How can I contact the band or one of its members?

A None of the Eagles have public e-mail addresses, though both Joe's Official Site(www.joewalsh.com) and Tim's Official Site (www.timothybschmit.com) have links where you can send comments.

If you'd like to write to a band member, use this address:

Name of Eagle
c/o Eagles Touring Company
1100 Glendon Avenue
Suite 2000
Los Angeles, CA 90024

Q  Are the Eagles coming to ...... ?

A We get this question a lot. There are plans to tour in 2007...they just haven't been made public yet. The band plans from year-to-year so they probably don't even know if they are coming to your neck of  the woods.

The same goes for solo dates. If the dates are published,  then we have them on the main page of the site, in the sidebar where it says "Eagles On Tour".

Q  What is Hotel California about?

Let us tell you what Hotel California is not about.

It's not about Satanism
It's not about a mental hospital
It's not about a hotel in Mexico
It's not about a drug rehab center.

In a nutshell, it's about America in the 1970s.

Q  What happened to Felder?

A In 2001, Felder was fired from the band. He sued Don Henley, Glenn Frey and long-time manager Irving Azoff. The case was settled before going before a jury.

Felder claims that he was not allowed to see the band's books and that he deserved more money than he was being paid.

The defendants in the case claim that Felder was no longer being a productive member of the band...that he was causing undo friction and conflict that did not allow the band to tour or record new material. They also claim that Felder violated his contract by making a deal for a tell-all book.

Of course, there are 3 sides to every story.

Q  Will there be a new album?

Yes. It will be released by the end of 2007.

Can I get No More Cloudy Days or One Day at a Time on CD?

As of now these songs are only available on the DVD and we've heard of no plans to release them on CD.  There is a radio show that gets offered on eBay once in a while that includes both songs. You may want to keep your eyes out for that.

UPDATE: The CD bundled with the Farewell DVD sold at Walmart has "No More Cloudy Days" on it. It also has "Fast Company" and "Do Something"

Is Glenn Frey left-handed?

Glenn writes with his left hand but plays guitar with his right.

On the Hell Freezes Over Video, Who says, "For the record, we never broke up...we just took a 14 year vacation?"

asked by Sonny / Libby

Glenn says that now-famous line.

What is Randy doing these days?

asked by Carl

Randy has kind of taken some time off from the music scene after suffering some health problems a few years ago. He's listed as a special guest artist with the World Classic Rockers, a group he regularly toured with a while ago.

When will Don Henley release a new CD?

asked by Reggie

Don has been working on an album, but it seems that getting out Eagles product is more of a priority for him. We're sure, though, that we'll see something new from Don soon.

On what album is "You Belong to the City"

asked by Louis

Though the Eagles perform this song, it's a Glenn solo song and can be found on his Solo Collection album.

Is the Hotel California in Todo los Santos the REAL Hotel California?

asked by Brenda

No.

This fax from Don Henley kind of clears that all up.

Why is there no video footage fro the 70s commercially available?

asked by Dave

That's a good question. It's our understanding that now that the lawsuit with Felder has been settled, fans can expect the release of some vintage video.

What bands were the members in before joining the Eagles?

Frey was in a folk duo, Longbranch Pennywhistle, with John David Souther, Henley was in Felicity and then Shiloh, Leadon had been in the Flying Burrito Brothers, Meisner did a stint in Poco, Felder was with an outfit called Flow, and Schmit did time with The New Breed, Glad, and Poco. Joe Walsh was in The James Gang and Barnstorm.

How did the band get its name?

To quote Bernie:"Well, we all wanted one (a name) that was short and concise, with an image,
and we were aware that a name is what you make it. I wanted a name wit hsome imagery.
Everybody was reading Castaneda then and we wanted a name that had some mythological
connotation. Frey wanted a name that could have been a Detroit street gang and Henley was
sort of going along with the Indian vibe and all that, and everybody wanted a name that was just
tough, you kno; (in deep voice) 'Hey! We're the fucking Eagles, man!' There was definitely a
West Side Story aspect to it; 'We're fucking Jets, you know. We're the fucking Eagles, kiss my
ass!' so, that went down well, and we're the Eagles within a month of starting."

Why was Randy not asked to rejoin the band?

The HFO tour was a RESUMPTION...not a REUNION. He left the band, so he was never even
considered for the 90's version.

What are the band member's birthdays?

Glenn Frey 11/6/48
Joe Walsh 11/20/47
Timothy B. Schmit 10/30/47
Don Felder 9/21/47
Don Henley 7/22/47
Bernie Leadon 7/19/47
Randy Meisner 3/8/47

What is the building on the front of the Hotel California album?

The Beverly Hills Hotel. To verify this, go to the hotel's website. Let the movie on the main page scroll through a couple of images and you'll see photographic proof. The inside shot was taken in the lobby of the Lido Apartments. These apartments no longer exist.

If Hotel California isn't satanic, why is the devil up on the balcony on the inside photo?

That's not the devil. It's a model who ingested too many substances and wandered upstairs. It isn't Anton LeVay either. Don't even try to tell us it is...it's not.

What is colitas?

Don's assistant once told us that it was a desert flower  meant to evoke a heady, sweet smell.

The Straight Dope got another answer.

When in 2007 is the New Album coming out?

asked by Jim

From what we can gather,  it's looking more and more that the album will come out sometime between Mid-February and the end of April, with April being more likely.

Does the band screen its fan mail?

Asked by Linda

We really don't know the answer to this one. Some mail seems to go through and other mail doesn't get answers. We do know, though, that at times all band members have read and responded to fan mail. Timothy is probably best about responding these days.

What Eagles song did Bob Seger co-write

asked by Robert

Heartache Tonight

Available Footage?

Keven asked:

Is there any footage of the eagles shows in 1980 that make up the "eagles live" album? Also, is there any footage available from the complete mtv rehearsels from HFO? Thanks!

We've never seen a complete show from that period in the band's history. We do have this clip, though (which one day we should redo in better quality).

We've never seen any footage or recordings from the rehearsals for the MTV show. Some  audio copies of the actual audio of those shows is sometimes incorrectly labled "MTV Rehearsals" but if you want video of that, just watch the HFO DVD.

Question about videos

Michael asked:

I remember seeing a music video for the song "I Cant Tell You Why" on an early to mid 80's tv show for kids (cartoon maybe) that also showed music videos (not MTV) this was not a live performace. Will stuff like this be released on dvd? In a ways, why was that made to begin with? A "promo" video?

There are three videos from that recording session. "I Can't Tell You Why", "The Long Run" and "In the City". We've always thought they were recorded for promo purposes. We've heard that part of the deal with Walmart includes eventually releasing archival video footage like this, so stay tuned.

What is the Last Resort about?

asked by David

Don has said that this song is about, "...how the West was lost".

It really is the story of Manifest Destiny and as you listen, you can hear the song moving from East to West across this country.  It starts in Rhode Island (in Providence....a word used many times to describe Manifest Destiny) and then movest to Aspen (where they tear the mountains down, while the town got high) and then to the west coast. It talks about cookie cutter subdivisions (the ugly boxes) and how they are hungry for power (both the kind wielded by Hollywood and the kind taken from Hoover Dam). Then the song moves to Hawaii (you can leave it all behind and sail to Lahaina) where white missionaries decimated the Hawaiian people and culture. The song ends by stating that there is "...no more new frontier". We've expanded as much as we can and we need to take care of what we have.

I heard a fantastic live version of Hotel California on the radio this AM...amazing accoustic and 12-string guitar opening riff. What CD or DVD is that on, if any?

asked by Kiwikat

Hell Freezes Over. According to Don Felder, that intro was created shortly before the taping of the MTV special. Don Henley came to him and said that they needed something special and that Felder should just, "...make something up"

Eagles in Dublin in 1992?

Steven asked:

Does anyone have information on an Eagles recording at 'The Stadium', Dublin, Ireland in 1992? Was this a concert or is there a video/album from this recording?

The Eagles did not play in Ireland in 1992. This sounds like Glenn's Strange Weather video which was filmed at the National Stadium in Dublin in that year.

How does the band choose what songs to play in concert?

asked by Geoff

The band chooses songs that the audience will be familiar with and enjoy. They tend to stay away from album tracks, though a few of those have popped up here and there. These days, it also seems that band member voices are taken into account. Lead vocals are spaced out giving people time to rest their chords. Additionally, some of the choices are made based on where Don Henley needs to be (drums, up front, or on the percussion kit).

Are the posters from the Live album and On the Border worth anything?

asked by Candy

I'd go ahead and display them. These poster, while cool to have, don't really increase the value of the album. For example, a pristine copy of The Live Album might sell from 5-7 dollars. With the poster, you MAYBE could get $10 for it.

Is 'our' Don Henley really in the movie "Cry Blood, Apache" or is it an actor with the same name?

Asked by James

We've suffered through this HORRIBLE movie and are 99.999999999999% sure that isn't our Don.

Who does the vocals on Best of My Love? (The earlier version.) We've been trying to pick the voice. Doesn't sound like Glenn or Don to us

asked by Trish

It's Don Henley :)
