We've been busy adding photos and videos to our new Donhenleyfans.com site. You may want to check it out. We're also going to start assembling a FAQ on Don so if you have any questions, please send them our way so they can be included. Thanks
Billoboard has a new year end money makers chart. This ranking takes into account both box office and record sales. The Eagles came in at #10 with combined earnings of 67.5 million dollars. The band's Farewell I was the 5th best selling music DVD of the year.
We're at the point that we've started adding actual content to our new Henley site (by the way...did you notice the updates list for this site down on the right of this page?). First up is a SongBlog.
What is a SongBlog? Rather than simply post lyrics on the website, we want to do something different. We know that people want lyrics and we're happy to provide them, but Don's songwriting seems to merit something a little more. When we post a song on the songblog, we'll provide background on the song as well as our thoughts on what the song and individual lines "mean". There's so much going on in a Henley song, it's hard to catch it all. If we've got quotes or insights from Don himself, we'll post those as well. Finally, because Don's songs mean so many things to so many people, we'll ask you to rate the song and to provide your thoughts on the song and to tell what the song means to you.
We're also going to arrange the songs a little differently. Rather than grouping them by album, we're going to group them by mood. Don's songs evoke so many feelings that this seems appropriate.
We ended up catching (and taping) one hour of the Don Felder Rockline last night. We missed the first 25 minutes or so.
In case you were wondering Don seemed very relaxed and personable. He was appearing with Ravi Sawhney of RKS Guitars. Don fielded questions on analog vs. digital recording, online music sharing, the genesis of Victim of Love (or Iron Lung), and his soundtrack work on Heavy Metal. Probably most interesting is the fact that Don is working on creating a new guitar instruction system. It sounds like Don (and the RKS guy) have developed an instructional model that cuts down the amount of time that it takes to learn guitar. This sytem will be packaged with a reasonably priced guitar (kind of like what that Esteban guy does...but better) and some of the proceeds will be given to a foundation that supplements music education in public schools.
If he talked about any new solo recordings or the situation with the Eagles, he did so in the first half hour. If anyone heard that and wants to share, we'd love to know what we missed.
Well, it's 1/2 hour into the broadcast and we just started taping. The station in Richmond that was advertised as an affiliate wasn't playing Rockline and we couldn't get the station in Portland to play on 3 different computers. We finally found a station in Las Vegas that has the broadcast.
If anyone managed to tape the first 1/2 hour, we (and our visitors) would be forever grateful. If you didn't tape it, but managed to listen to it, can someone tell us what was said in the first 1/2 hour?
Thanks. Hopefully the Felder segment isn't over yet. More later!
We've been playing around with our Henley domain name and have created a new Henley site. It will work as a companion site to this one, but will have some of its own unique content. There's not much there now, but you can watch it as it grows. Feel free to send in suggestions or participate in some of the interactive things we have planned.
