The Jerry Lee Lewis album featuring the duet with Don will be released on Tuesday. It's actually a pretty cool album. You can get more information from Jerry Lee's website. The nice folks marketing the album also sent us links where you can hear the whole song.(WMA, Real). You can order the album from Amazon (or Amazon.uk)
We've uploaded 2 more issues of our old paper newsletter. Enjoy issues 19 and 20/21 which feature interviews with Grassroots Aspen Experience personnel, a look at the Eagles' sports obsession and a first-hand account of Don's appearance at a Galveston Gala. Enjoy!
Today is Don Felder's birthday! In honor of the occasion, head over to the best Felder site on the Internet and check out their coverage of Don's recent participation in the Howard Keel Golf Tournament. They've got a write-up about the event. They've also got some nice photos.
Last night biotechnology firm Genentech held their 30th anniversary concert in San Francisco, with performances by (take a breath) the Black Eyed Peas, the Foo Fighters, the Eagles and Bob Dylan. (photo by Automatt)
Fans of JD Souther will be interested in this press release we received the other day:
The third annual HATCHfest, with competitions in music, as well as film, fine art, photography, writing, dance, fashion, architecture and other creative arts, will take place October 3 to 8 in Bozeman, Montana, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Among the thousands of festivals there is nothing quite like the Hatch Audiovisual Arts Festival. HATCHfest brings together students, selected from hundreds of schools and colleges around the world, and seasoned professionals, who become their mentors. It is festival like none other, hatching creative talent within innovation and the arts. Gibson Guitars, a major sponsor of HATCHfest, awards the Gibson Guitar New Musician with a brand new Gibson Acoustic Guitar.
We’re very excited to announce that legendary singer / songwriter JD Souther (Best of My Love, Victim of Love, Heartache Tonight, New Kid in Town) will present this year’s Gibson New Musician Award. JD will also conduct a Master’s Class for a select group of HATCHfest attendees and participate in many of the festival’s other activities. JD’s participation in HATCH comes on the heels of his upcoming CD release this fall. Master Luthier Ren Ferguson will also be conducting a Masters Class at the Gibson Guitar Factory in Bozeman. Other musicians and music industry executives scheduled to attend and participate in HATCHfest include Brian Corona, VP, Atlantic Records, Ray Gmeiner, VP, Virgin Records, Shawn O’Connell, President/CEO of Music Allies and the bands Goat, LifeSavas and Eightrack Mind, plus, surprise guests!
I know it's a small segment of the consumer market ... but many of us "Early Adopters" are real excited about the announcement today that "Eagles Farewell I: Live From Melbourne" will be released on HD DVD on November 14th. You may know that HD DVD is one of two new high definition optical disk formats (the other is Sony's Blu-Ray Disk) and that there is a bit of a "format war" going on. I picked up a Toshiba HD DVD player pretty much as soon as they came out this past Spring. I also have a HD recording of the NBC broadcast that I watch on a regular basis. The difference in visual quality between the HD NBC recording and the standard DVD is striking. This new HD DVD should be just as good (better really) as the HD NBC broadcast was ... except it will be the full length and without commercials. All should keep in mind that you have to have an HD DVD player to play the new November 14th release. You can not play an HD DVD in a regular DVD player.
You may have noticed that the poll on the left has changed. The old poll reached 500 votes, so it was time to retire it. The new question arose from a discussion on a James Gang mailing list. It will be interesting to see what y'all come up with.
