Weekly News Roundup

One of the Office sites I visits does this every week and it seemed like a good way to deal with all of those fleeting news mentions. Enjoy!

Henley

  • Calling Me (the Kenny Rogers/Don Henley duet) has re-entered the country charts at #60 link
  • Don was the musical guest at the Shoah Foundation Awards dinner which was attended by Steven Spielberg, Bono and Jerry Seinfeld on Tuesday Night link
  • Don was mentioned in passing in Nightline's story about a horrible attack in Linden.
  • The Woody Creek Tavern near Don's former residence in Apsen may be up for sale. link
  • Does this guy know what he's talking about re: Don's new album title?

Walsh

  • This stuff is a little old, but here's the rundown on Joe's appearance at Kenny Chesney's Omaha show. The Cleveland Plain Dealer had a short reveiw, there's a quick mention on Kenny's site and there's a video of Joe over on YouTube. Thanks to OAG for assembling this all.

Eagles

  • The London Telegraph has a really nice story about Hotel California that is worth a read
  • A DVD called "World's Greatest Albums: Desperado" is set to release on June 12th. It looks like it was created by the same people who did that definitive guide to the Eagles that was released in the UK.
  • Another news outlet reporting "the end of June" for the album. We're still betting on the 26th.

L&M

  • Ike and Amos attended the Wiener Dog Races in Buda today and they'd love to have you check out their photos.

New Comment Policy

We hate to do this, but things have been getting out of hand lately. While we appreciate and encourage people of differing opinions to post comments on the blog, the hateful, rude and personally abusive posts have gotten out of control. From now on, any comment that contains a personal attack will be deleted as soon as we are able to get to it. This is not censorship because you will be able to repost your thoughts without the personal attack in them. Attacking each other is not the way to foster a good discussion. Additionally, we don't feel that one of the things we should have to deal with on a daily basis is personal attacks from people who disagree with us. Thanks for understanding. We don't want to have to disable comments completely.

Heads-Up Nightline Tonight

We were just contacted by Nightline because they wanted to use a photo of Don that's on our site for their broadcast tonight (we were unable to help them out). We have no idea what the topic of the show is. It could be that they are just mentioning Don in regards to Earth Day or political contributions or something or it could be a longer story. We'll have the DVR on to catch whatever it is.

More Programs!

Ringo11Tonight we have a rescan of Glenn's No Fun Aloud program from Japan and a Ringo Starr program that features both Joe and Tim!

Sure to Spur More Comments

The Felderfans site found this little tidbit (also from Hyperion) about Felder's book:

“From the renowned guitarist of The Eagles comes a warts-and-all, no holds barred memoir of life in the fast lane. For the better part of three decades, Don Felder was a guitarist for The Eagles, and penned the music to their greatest hit–and arguably one of the greatest rock songs ever written–”Hotel California.” Until the moment he was fired in 2001, there wasn’t a day that he didn’t think the band was on the verge of breaking up. Increasingly divided by money, musical tastes, and monumental egos, the group stayed together longer than anyone could have expected. Here Don Felder tells the whole story, from heaven to hell and back. It was a dream come true, an amazing ride, and Felder is pulling no punches. Hardcover. MS due March. “

Granted, this is still hype from a publisher, but we think it makes it clear exactly what kind of book this is going to be. We have several comments about this little blurb, but we'll let y'all go at it.

Something else in the works

Donfelder This week's London Book Fair Daily says the following:

Alan Samson, publisher at Weidenfeld & Nicholson, has acquired UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) from Hyperion Books in the autobiography of Eagles guitarist Don Felder, who composed "Hotel California". Heaven and Hell: My Life as an Eagle will be published by W&N in October, 2007 and the publisher described it as "the most blisteringly frank book ever written by a member of a major rock group".

So, to us, that sounds a little more like it will focus on the Hell part...you usually don't have a "blistering frank" look at pleasant experiences. So much for it not being a tell-all and simply an autobiography.

The Hyperion website also lists a release date of October 2007, a list price of $24.95, and a co-author named Wendy Holden.

Even More Programs!

Eoi9Lisa scanned some more programs for us. First, we have rescans (and a PDF) of the beautiful Henley End of the Innocence Tour program. You can check out the Farewell I programs from both 2005 and 2006 . We've also rescanned the 89|90 Japanese program featuring Don Henley. There are some photos there that we didn't have up before and in our opinion, these are some of the best photos....ever....of Don.

The Madness Ends!

Congratulations to Hotel California, the song that came out far ahead in our Eagles Madness tournament! We hope everyone enjoyed this. If anyone has any ideas for similar things we can do, we'd be happy to entertain them.

End of June?

The little tidbit about the end of June being the release window for the new album has gained a little traction. Remember, the mention was first made as a parenthetical aside in an article about REO Speedwagon in Pollstar. Undercover in Australia went with that. Now, respected rock journalist, Gary Graff (who has written some great stuff about the band) mentioned it in his weekly radio call-in spot (thanks, Molly). Graff said the date was on good authority. He's one of those rock journalists (like Mark Brown in Denver) that the band seems to really like. Interestingly enough, Graff was granted an interview with Joe Walsh about this new album last August so he does have the kind of access that could get him  "...on good authority" information. Just more to ruminate on.

Auction Update!

Hey everyone. By now MOST of you should have received your auction items. We've just had a bunch of checks clear so those items should be sent out sometime this week. We also have a few large items that it's taken us time to package up and those will be going out too. We haven't forgotten about you. There are a couple of you who haven't contacted us yet about your items, so we'll be getting in touch with you as well. Thanks again to everyone who participated.
