Eagles Madness

It's getting to be time for our yearly Eagle Madness tournament where we pit Eagles songs against Eagles Songs.  If you'd like to offer suggestions or feedback for what songs should be included (obviously we can't include them all) or how to set up the brackets, please let us know. You may want to check out what we did last year.

I'm thinking the 4 brackets this year will be:

Classics: the songs that everyone knows...Hotel California, Life in the Fastlane, Desperado etc.

Hidden Gems: songs that only diehards know and love: Bitter Creek, Journey of the Sorcerer...etc....

Newbies:  songs from Long Road Out of Eden

Solo:  Solo songs performed by the Eagles: Dirty Laundry, Smuggler's Blues, Funk 49 etc.

This isn't set in stone, so if you don't like it, give us feedback.

Eagles in SC

This was in today's USA Today. Thanks, Barbara!

Fans of classic rock may want to plan a trip this June to Myrtle Beach, S.C. That's where and when Hard Rock Park — more than 150 acres of theme park featuring everything from roller coasters and children's play areas to restaurants and a live music amphitheatre — will open its doors.

The "Grand Opening Extravaganza" kicks off June 2 with a ceremony at the iron-gated entrance and a concert by the Eagles. "The park is all about the power and influence of rock music," says Steven Goodwin, its CEO. "Hearing the Eagles playing live, drifting across the entire park, is going to be a great way of saying 'We've arrived.' "

Another news source says tickets for the opening extravaganza will go on sale March 17th.

Book Report

Today on their BBC Radio 2 programme, Radcliffe and Marconie discussed Don Felder's book with Sid Griffin. They've got an interesting perspective. Thanks to JoeB who sent us the files. Part 1 | Part 2

More From Virgin

Virgin Radio has posted a transcript of the Henley interview. There's more there than was broadcast including some interesting things about the recording process, the movies that inspired Waiting in the Weeds and a shout out to Sheryl Crow.

Getting Some Exposure.

So, I was checking out one of my TV Blogs and saw this. You'll recognize the second song in the trailer (though it's the India Arie version). Pretty cool.

It's Oscar Night

So, we thought we'd hand out some acting awards to our favorite Eagles (yes, we realize some of these are for TV...but just play along).

Best Costume Worn by an Eagle: Wonderpants. Worn by Glenn Frey in Arli$$

Best Impersonation of an Eagle by an Eagle: Don Henley as himself. Just Shoot Me.

Clip 1   Clip 2   Clip 3  (wow! we need to redo those clips!)

Best Use of Voice by Someone in a Bear Costume: Don Henley. Country Bears Movie

Most Unexpected Cameo. Don Henley. SNL Skit

Best Portrayal of a bass player by a bass player. Timothy B Schmit. Scenes from a Goldmine.  1   2   3

Best Animated Eagle. Joe Walsh. Duckman. 1 | 2 | 3

Oustanding Achievement in Portraying a Character Similar to Yourself. Joe Walsh as Ed on Drew Carey. Ed Does Magic   Ed Helps Drew Use His Laptop   Here Comes The Bride
Woolly Bully-our tape got munched

Best Appearance on a Show Very Few People Remember (but I used to watch religiously) Timothy B. Schmit on Throb

Oustanding Achievement on a Show that was Never Given a Chance: Glenn Frey on South of Sunset.

Oustanding Achievement in Documentary Production (Long Form): Glenn Frey on Expedition Earth.

Best Portrayal of a Character You Probably Wouldn't Mind Being in Real Life. Glenn Frey as Dennis Wilburn in Jerry Maguire.

We realize there are a few things we need to get up on the site like Joe in Zachariah, Glenn in Smuggler's Blues and Nash Bridges. We should also probably put up the video of Timothy in Throb (though the quality sucks).

What's your favorite acting role by a member of the Eagles?

Henley Interview on Virgin Radio

If you missed the interview on Virgin Radio today, we've got it ready for you to download. There's not much new here (Ben Jones should have called up Nicky Horne because he asked pretty much the same things Nicky did back in October) but there are a few interesting tidbits. Don hints that "Waiting in the Weeds" will be part of the new live set, he also didn't sound so final and negative about the possibility of another Eagles album. We learn that "stretching" is a large part of his workout routine and that Don Felder's is referred to as "The Departed".

intro | 1| 2 | 3 | 4 | 5

Sorry for the dog's barking on track 5. We also got an error exporting track 1.  Thanks to JoeB you can dowload the ENTIRE INTERVIEW with no dogs. Thanks, Joe.

Individual Stagecoach Tickets

You can now purchase individual day passes for the Stagecoach festival instead of 3 day passes. That means you can buy a ticket for only the day the Eagles are performing. That sounds like a deal!

Did we Jinx It?

We put Dave Grohl up on the page yesterday and today, Foo Fighters beat out Eagles for both International Group and International Album at the Brit Awards. Thanks for letting us know, Jill.

An Interesting Cover

Okay. I love Will Ferrell and I love Dave Grohl. Put them together and what do you have? Magic. Will and Dave dueted on Leather and Lace at a recent benefit for 826LA (a great charity that provides writing/tutoring centers to kids on LA). I'd love to have audio of Dave Grohl's part. He takes it so seriously! And he's good. Enjoy. This is Not Safe For Work due to language and content.
