Video on the Site: Summer Project

A lot of things have changed since we first started the Fastlane, especially in regards to the ability to deliver video on the Internet. When we first started this thing, the only thing we could do was hook a device called a Snappy up to the TV to get screen shots. Then, we discovered how to capture things in .rm format. That's why many of our videos need RealPlayer to view them. We now have the capability to bring you things in a wide variety of formats. We want to focus on video this summer and need input from you.

We're wondering if we should redo all of the old video. I think people have told us that either .mov or mpeg is fine with them for format. Should we redo all of the old stuff or focus on new stuff? What's more important to you...quality or ease of downloading? Is there some way we can organize our video better? Do you want thumbnails? Embedded players? Any suggestions or input you have to offer is valuable to us. If you don't watch the videos, let us know why. If nobody is watching them, we could focus on something else.

We look forward to seeing what you have to say.

Lazy Sunday Afternoon

I don't have a lot to do this afternoon, so I threw a random DVD in the mac and thought I'd make some video files. Watch this space to see what I put up.

First up, how about some good quality versions of Don at the Clinton Inaugural Ball? We've had a few of these clips up, but not all and not in this good of quality.

Dirty Laundry
Hotel California
The Times They Are A Changin'
Heart of the Matter

Here are a few more goodies

Joe helps out Wichita after a horrible tornado
Joe's party for the release of Ordinary Average Guy at the Hard Rock in New York
Joe on the Arsenio Hall show. Father Guido Sarducci wanted to write a song about how making snowmen was cruel and enlisted Joe's help. Part 1 | Part 2
And finally, a video promoting a Party of Two show as the perfect addition to your corporate event.

So, now that it's April 4th...

I'm a little behind on this, but I just wanted to thank everyone who said they enjoyed our April Fool's stories. We've been doing this for a long time now (even when we did the paper newsletter) and it amuses us so we're glad that it amuses most of you.

If you're new to the Fastlane, here are some of our previous "pranks".

Last year, we turned Eaglesfans into Officefans

We also changed the ummm....tone of our site.

Other fake news stories we've done:

Henley Joins Bush Administration Environmental Commission
Miami Vice Reunion Special and Movie
Joe Walsh Has Posessed Guitar
Randy Impersonates Imposter
Poco Pizzazz
Frey Leaves Lakers in the Lurch
Henley Teams up With Xtina For Oscar Nod
Henley Solves Missing Guitar Mystery
Tim Tangles With Tyra
Kiss the James Gang Deadly
Music of the Spheres

Another part of our April Fool's tradition is that each year, "Chris" lets us know how lame it all is. He didn't disappoint this year.

And in related news, you can check out what I did to my students.

Are You on LiveJournal?

I've been playing around with LiveJournal and have really enjoyed how it allows you to get to know other people and network with them. I've set up an Eagles community there. If you have a LJ (or want to get one) consider joining the community or at least friending me so that we can work together to create a network of fans. To tease you, I've put up a few Eagles icons I've made using the awesome photos that people have sent in recently.

Networking

As you can tell from the badges over on the left, we're experimenting with a little social networking. We've had a MySpace for a while and it's been working out okay. We've added a Facebook and we're a little unsure how that works. If you're on Facebook and want to friend us (or whatever they call it) please do so that we can play around with it a little more. It seems like there are a lot of Eagles fans there. We're trying to figure out if we should start a group there or join groups. It's a bit confusing for us oldsters, so any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Admin Note RE: Comments

Just a quick note to let you know that we've deleted some comments today. We provide the comment capability to allow readers to discuss the articles and news pieces we post. We do not provide them so that everything gets turned into an argument/rant about Don Felder. If/When these off-topic Felder comments pop up, we'll delete them. We're sick of having to moderate these arguments and then get the nasty/abusive comments and emails that usually follow.

There is already a place on this site to discuss Mr. Felder and all aspects of his career. You can rant there until you are blue in the face. The comments section in stories that have nothing to do with him is not the place for that. Thanks!

Features and Links Update

I've finally updated the Fastlane Features over on the right side of the page. Check them out and then come over to Eagleland to talk about them with other fans.

Yesterday, I told you about our new Links page. I've configured something with the program to post any new links we've added to the blog here once a day. We'll see if that works. I'm trying to add topical things. Tomorrow morning when you log on, you should see a bunch of Glenn golfing links here for your viewing pleasure. If you have feedback about the new links or how it's working, please let us know.

Getting Linked

As many of you know...this site is huge and it sometimes gets away from us. We've been working on this thing for over 10 years and some of the pages were made about that long ago. We were horrified earlier this week when we took a look at our Links Page. About 85% of the links didn't work.

It was kind of sad to see that many of the old fan sites have simply slipped away. There have been some great fan sites over the years. We remember the first we ever visted...the site Bev set up on the Powell River, BC chamber of commerce site. Anyone else remember that? Annette's site in the Netherlands with all of the great photos? Most recently, Wim decided to close his Desperado site. There have been many others as well and we certainly want to keep track of those that still remain.

We've gotten rid of our old links page and set up a de.licio.us account so that it can be updated more easily. Make sure to check it out. Use the tags on the right to find just what you are looking for.

Most importantly...we need YOU to send us links you think would be of interest to Eagles fans. We'll probably start linking up to page on this site in an effort to help you explore this place better, but please either email us your suggestions or if you have a de.licio.us account yourself, join our network and send us links. We can't wait to build this resource together with you.

Fastlane Features

We've long been frustrated by the fact that sometimes there's too much stuff here on the site and people don't get a chance to check it out. We're going to try to highlight some of the older or rarer things in our archives. If you look over on the right ----->  each week we're going to list a video clip, audio interview and print piece. Take a watch or listen and then head over to Eagleland where we're discussing them.

This week, we're talking about "selling out", lip-synching,  and band interviews in general. Join us, won't you (remember, we've made it even easier to register and post on Eagleland).

Eagleland Forum

We've been having some problems with the email notification system on our forum. Because of that, some folks have been registering and havne't received their confirmation email.  We've turned off the function that makes you wait for confirmation. So...you should be able to register and post right away.

We're having some great discussions about the upcoming tour, so feel free to come on over.

Just head to the forum, create an ID and get started!
