What Do I Do With My Heart

What Do I Do With My Heart

Glenn Frey & Don Henley

Oh girl, don't you remember?
It was not so long ago, we were making plans for two - just me and you
Now you tell me that you've found somebody - someone who loves you better
But no one could ever love you the way I do

Glenn told Billboard that one of the goals they had when they set out to create a new Eagles album was that they wanted to make sure that there was clear evidence of a Henley/Frey partnership. This song is a good example of how they achieved that goal (besides the dual writing credit).

What you’ve got here is a nice, soulful, could be country/could be R ‘n’ B (if you’re into labeling things) ballad. It’s not unlike some of Glenn’s work on Soul Searchin’.  You can just picture him standing on stage, guitar strapped on, scrunching up his face and balling his hands into fists as he leans back and belts this out.  It’s classic Glenn Frey with some tight Eagle-y harmonies on the chorus. But then…at the end of the song, Don comes in and sings the verse while Glenn does well, that which American Idol contestants do poorly…he wails…he improvises…he lets loose and it is amazing. It reminded me a lot of the soulful kind of thing Hall and Oates are known for. It’s at the end of this, that the song ceases to be a Glenn Frey classic and becomes an Eagles classic.

When I heard the samples at eagles site, I wasn't convinced by this one...
now that I heard the whole song I'm surprised!
Very very good one! Glenn sounds great!
And when Don comes in it gets even better...

Just awesome... Especially the end of the song: I'm not used to hear Glenn improvise on eagles' songs. I really love Don doing it but that's kind of something different, almost an innovation in my opinion. An excellent song to me, both musically and vocally.

The whole song is MUCH better than just the 30 second clip. I really liked the end with Don coming in. :D

So, the picture is: Here's a poor version fo Glenn singing in an almost empty small club for a bunch of guys who know they'll be going home alone tonight, but aren't drunk enough to dare yet. And then the background singers come in, Henley comes in, and the song gains momentum. Before the proprietor calls closing time, they all join at the bar for a last drink, and the song is over ...

I am really not keen on this one at all. Even Don can't save it for me. My least favourite I'm afraid to say.

A beautiful soultune, a classic Glenn song till the bridge, that bridge is really "eagley". And The end it's perfect! 9 points to this song!

I love this song. It is beautiful, and for me SO very Eagles. I love Glenn's voice and style.

and then we have track 4, the Eagles, as their solo albums were always better than their individual parts. This is the first album we've seen where the birds (eaglets) have left the nest, explored the world (Joe & Tim you're not included here) then came back with fresh ideas even if it was 28 years later, so of course they will have their re-constituted sound on board and I'm Ok with that. Great song which I know will grow on me. Hey Kids the Eagles grew up. And so did we. Lots of Love 43 year old Eagles to die for

The song is amazing after the first half, it comes alive! Nice one!

Incredible, everytime I listen to it it grows more and more on me. Kudos for Glenn!

When I first heard the chorus I was expecting a really "Girl from yesterday" kind of country song and it isn't that which disappointed me a bit but it is a very good song and the chorus was what originally grabbed me (and still does!) so thumbs-up!

Now I have been listening to this song a couple of times and it grows and grows. It's great, a pleasure to hear.

The only flaw this song has is the weird percussion stuff in the first half.

I completely agree with Timo, they should have used real drums, that's the thing that keeps me from giving this song a 10.

one of the best songs on the whole album. it has grown on me. It has almost a bit too much "backstreet boys" vibe at the end on Henley´s singing but it´s okay.

My favourite tune from the whole double album.

This starts off as a track that would sound right at home on one of Glenn's mid 80s albums. Which aint so bad but maybe they could've just re-recorded Soul Searching as an Eagles song using the original lyrics.

This song is terrible. No teeth to the lyrics or the music. Note to Frey: Meaty ballads are possible. Just look at some of the band's prior work. Manufactured, 80's sounding junk. Henley tries to save it at the end, but nothing is saving this.

The end of the song is awesome, 4 stars of 5

Wonderfully, I could cry before luck!!!

90's boy band type crap - I could envision Boyz to Men or the Backstreet Boys singing this. Sorry for the negativity folks but I had higher expectations after 28 years.

This song has grown and grown on me, surprisingly, as ballads of this sort normally bore me. I'm not a huge Frey-on-lead-vocals fan but he really nails this one. This is a possible number 1 single (don't laugh) as modern 'light' FM stations would play it. It would not have made it onto any of the previous 6 studio albums but against the odds it sounds perfect on this one.

This songs cuts me open at the heart..Anyone who has ever lost someone they haved loved, cannot help but be affected by this song..It brings me to tears everytime I hear it...Glens impassioned singing on this gives me chills...

I think this song is going to be a real sleeper. How Long and Busy Being Fabulous will get a lot of attention as the first singles, but this is one that will then emerge as one of the highlights of the album.. similar to how I Can't Tell You Why became a favorite after The Long Run and Heartache Tonight were released.

Such a beautiful song. I think we need to stop comparing them to the older songs. These songs wont get justice that they deserve
