They're Ready...Are You?

Nbcblog2_copyBack when HFO premiered on MTV, we watched it in isolation. We had a few online Eagles friends, but didn't have a chance to enjoy it with other fans...to dissect all the great little moments...to chose favorite expressions or riffs...to identify lines that would become commonplace amongst fans (Are ya pukin'?). The Eagles have a new television special which will premiere on June 1st. This time, we intend to take full advantage of the online community and to provide a place for everyone to come together. Here's what we have in mind:

  • Countdown questions. Each day, we'll ask a question about your expectations for the show. Chime in and let's buid excitement.
  • Live Blog. The night of the show, we'll be blogging live...updating comments as they happen for our overseas friends and folks who have to work or miss the show.
  • Debriefing Chat. Stop by after the show and chat about what you saw.
  • Opportunities for you to post your own review of the show.

Everything will be kept here on this blog so that those who want to look back on this somewhat momentous event can remember. This will also be a great place to welcome new fans who find the site thanks to the show. HFO created tons of fans! If you have any suggestions for what you'd like to see here, please let us know!

Countdown Question #1--Plans

What are your plans for the night of the show? Are you watching with family? Are you meeting friends? Did you buy a new television set? Hit the comments button below to let us know what you have in mind.

Obviously, we'll be right here...blogging live and keeping you up-to-date!

Countdown Question #2--Expectations

What are you most looking forward to during the broadcast? A special song? A particular moment?

What are you least looking forward to?

Countdown Question #3 -- Menu

So...what's on the menu for your viewing of the special? Will you wash down Velveeta cheesburgers with a Tequila Sunrise? Let us know what you'll be enjoying Wednesday night.

This might get you in the mood for tonight....

A bit of a teaser..... (you'll need something that plays quicktime video).

Countdown Question #4--Well???

Are ya pukin'????????????

10 Minutes To Go!!!

We're going to be experimenting with our first ever live-blog tonight. As we watch the show, we'll post our comments and a brief play-by-play for those who may not be able to be in front of a TV tonight (or like those in Florida who are having their Eagles pre-empted for a hurricane awareness special).

You'll probably want to refresh periodically. The newest posts will appear at the top of blog. If you are around now, "sign-in" by leaving a comment.

See you in an hour!

6:59

It's hard to believe how excited we are by this. It's just a concert....one we've seen quite a few times, but this is REALLY COOL!!!!

7:00

This is great....This is more of the DVD opening than we've seen before.

Long Run.....Man, this is weird seeing this like this in the comfort of the living room. It's like watching a really, really good bootleg.  The filming is excellent. Lisa is in the other room screaming, "I don't believe this....the Eagles on network TV!!!!"

7:05

Glenn's doing the Welcome! I'm not sure I like the cutaways to the entire arena.

Peaceful Easy Feeling in on now. Everyone in the audience seems so very photogenic!

I'm hearing harmonies I don't think I've ever heard before and it's really cool to see Don back on the drums. Did Glenn not say, "Who likes country rock"?

7:10

I'm starting to get a bit annoyed by the editing. It's nice to see everything going on stage....but does it seem a bit choppy? Maybe I'm just not used to it.

I love it when the camera shows Glenn with Don on the drums behind him.

Yay Al!!!!!!!!

COMMERCIAL!!!

I've noticed that NBC has dropped the "Watch them for one last time" language.

It will be interesting to see what demographics are targeted by the advertisers.

Eagles fans like:

Trucks
Will Ferrell
Wendy's
Nike Shoes
Talking on the Phone

7:13

Ooooh......we're getting some of the interviews.

Forgive me for saying "Stubble!!!!!!!" This is nice.

Lots of nice quotes about how important the audience is.

Very nice. This DVD is going to be pretty damn good.

7:15

One of These Nights

Don's voice is a bit rough but sounds nice.

I hope that if they are showing the interview bits, they show the bloopers at the end. "Whose guitar is this....is priceless"

I love Stu's guitar solo on this. He puts so much of himself into it. I'm not a huge fan of this song, but this is really, really nice.

7:20

I like watching Glenn sing along. It's hard to sit on a couch and watch this. We're used to dancing!!!!

Joe in the guitar store. Joe talking about Recovery and his sobriety. I like that this broadcast is geared for fans...there's not a lot of explanation. Joe is very emotional introducing One Day at a Time.

We've not yet seen this....only heard it. This will be cool.

Awesome bass riff from Timothy.....Don's playing percussion with little mallets and he's wearing the Madonna mic!

I like that La La Las : ) Great blistering vocal from Joe.

7:25

Nice shot of Scott grinning at the camera.

The audience really liked that number....and I didn't see anyone heading out to the restroom!

I hard that they weren't going to show solo songs, but I'm hoping they show Dirty Laundry...the hopping footage we've seen is awesome.

COMMERCIAL

Am I the only one loving that Diet Coke and Pepsi now are made with Splenda?

The 4400....don't get me started...I'm still ticked off from last season. Couldn't they have told us there would be a Season 2. I am not getting suckered in. I am not watching this time!

7:30

Timothy and Joe talking about younger fans. Ooooh!!! Eagles getting off the plane footage. Nice shot of Tony!

New Kid In Town.

I wonder which of the fans are the ones they brought in special?

It's great that all the backing musicians are getting lots of screen time.

7:35

Really nice harmonies at the end of New Kid

More interviews. Glenn thinks the band has gotten better..."There's more listening to each other"

Already Gone.

This is one of my favorites during the live show.  Glenn has really been the star of this show. Lots of great closeups. Timothy is having a great time. Great shot of Joe chewing gum :)

The audience is waving their wands in the air.

Great shot of the two percussionists. Glenn seems to have his eyes open more so than usual.

7:37

Glenn and Stu have gelled so well.

Hey you in front.... with the pony tail...sit down!

Closeup of Timothy's hands.

Bye-bye baby!

Commercials!!!!

This is exhausting! But fun!!

Gosh....this commercial looks like the band arriving at a show! A whole line of black SUVs.

Is it me, or is this Hit Me Baby One More Time show kind of sad?

7:40

Joe is explaining the Helmet Cam. It's Time to Be Silly!!!

The Wardrobe change has taken place. The suits are gone and the jeans and plaid shirts are on!

Very few people in the audience are standing up. That's a bit sad.

Dang, I want to see a show!

7:45

Life's Been Good!

How can Joe sing and chew gum at the same time? The choir teacher at my school would be VERY disappointed.

Split creen for Helmet Cam. It's neat to see people waving their seat cusions.

It's odd not hearing all the cheering that is going on at this point.

Timothy threw a pick!!!!!!

7:47

I like Joe and Glenn's choreography during this song.

Finally, we can hear a bit of the crowd noise.

Heartache Tonight alrady? I wonder when we'll get the acoustic set.

I'm not sure I like how NBC cut this.

7:53

The only thing missing from this is the energy you get at a live show. This is much more rreprsentative of the band than HFO ever was.

I love it when Glenn does the hand gestures during this song.

Great Henley smile!

Commercials

Outback Steakhouse....for "authentic" Australian cuisine.

The acoustic set must be up next....they just plugged Take it to the Limit.

7:58

Take it to the Limit.

I really like Glenn out from behind the piano on this one.  There's something about all of them sitting up front on stools.

Timothy is striking quite a pose. When they pull back you can't see his stool and it's like he's been caught in mid-leap.

Glenn is putting a lot of emotion into this. Excellent performance!

8:00

It's so weird not hearing the audience sing along. It's nice to hear just them....but...well....y'all know :)

Don speaks.....cute accent.

He's intro-ing Hole in the World and telling the story about 9-11.

Don's guitar is really pretty.

This song just gives me goose-bumps. It's lyrically very simple, but the harmonies are amazing.

8:03

It's really odd seeing Joe without a guitar in his hands.

Timothy hugs his bass like it's a kid or a puppy : )

Will Hollis closeup...one of the few I've seen tonight.

These harmonies are just chilling...goose-bumping...is that a word?

Commercials

I hope they haven't stopped with the behind the scenes footage!

I wish I had a Timmy fan here to write about LWKUA. I hope I don't miss something important : )

8:11

Eagles Fear Factor would be really cool. I love Medium. Great show.

Joe talking about Don and Glenn. Glenn talking about Timothy. I just got a little misty during the Glenn/Don are on the same wavelength comment.

Love Will Keep Us Alive

Man, time has flown by....only 50 more minutes left.

I like how Tim is kind of peeping at the camera.  Tim looks different somehow...a bit softer in the face...like he's put on a little weight. He looks great.

The thing I love about this song is that something always seems to crack Henley up...he always laughs to himself.

Obligatory shot of couples in the audience.

I'm making a lot of typos....It's hard to type and watch at the same time.

8:15

Tim just gave a thumbs up to someone. Very cool.

Glenn talks about rehearsing. Don talks about soundchecks. I like watching Don tinkering with his drums.

No More Cloudy Days. Odd that there wasn't an intro about it.

I really, really like this song and the David Grey influence is obvious.

Scott is hammering those brushes : )

8:18

My favorite part of this song is the harmonies on the chorus. It's so catchy!!!

The printing on Joe's pants always make me feel as if he's wearing leg-warmers

This song is so Eagles...this coupled with the Don/Glenn comments a couple of minutes ago are making me misty. Hopefully, the July recording sessions are productive.

Commercials

I'm hoping this isn't the end of the acoustic set....I want to see Tequila Sunrise.

One thing I like about watching a concert at home is that we have air-conditioning here. No delicate voice to keep it warm for : )

Okay....Jared from Subway just really scared me there.

Oh Mike Reno....how far you've fallen!

8:25

A bit of band history....Great closeup!!!!!

Don's going to give himself a bruise poking himself in the head with that finger.

They've shown that girl with the highlights in her hair 3 times.

Hotel California! I'm going to admit it...I'm not a big fan of this in concert.

We've got 30 minutes to go after this. I'm hoping for some really up-tempo stuff.

8:27

I was just catching up reading some of the comments here. It's kind of fun that we can all sort of watch this together. Lisa tells me there are 20 people in the chat-room. Wow!

The audience finally seems into it.

I really like how Stu has fit so seamlessly into this band. He's a great addition...they made the right choice.

Finally....some guys in the audience!

8:30

I don't get the people who say that Joe and Stu have no chemistry together. They are playing off each other just fine.

I like the shots of all the guitar necks.

They really are plugging the Joe stuff. Rocky Mountain Way is up next.

Commercials

I want to go to a zoo where we can feed giraffes!!!

I haven't watched Days of Our Lives in like 15 years. It looks like it got weird with that island business.

Another example of sadness in the music business. I imagine Hammer got A LOT of money to humiliate himself like that.

8:35

Nice intro about why they do the solo songs. It will be interesting to see how these interviews are presented on the DVD. They fit nicely as intros to the songs.

I've never noticed they show mountains while Joe is singing Rocky Mountain Way.

I'm going to do what I usually do during this song....take a little mental break : )

Be back in a few minutes.

8:41

I like watching the horn guys swing back and forth. I hope NBC left in the band intros. It would be great to see these guys get national recognition for the great job they do.

Do you think the band members are watching this? Henley is in Philadelphia, but the others are probably at home. Bill Clinton is on live on Larry King, though and maybe one of them wanted to watch Dancing With the Stars

Commercials

I actually loike the Tim McGraw / Nelly song. Cute commercial.

One of Joe's songs is on the Lords of Dogtown soundtrack. I can't remember which one.

I think it would be fun if they could get Ben Affleck to do an Aflac commercial.

8:47

Band talking about the meaning of Farewell I.

Love the backstage shots. Damn, these guys have to work things out. I hear Lisa crying in the other room. She says, "Well, these interviews must have been done a while ago"

Take it Easy Time.

Glenn winked at someone!

It's weird without the solo songs. I miss seeing Henley out front.

Great shots of Timothy and Joe wailing away.

Glenn's hair looks mussed!

Commercials

Well, we probably only have Desperado yet to go.

Only 10 more minutes for you West Coasters

I don't understand the point of Dipping Strips pizza.

RIP Jerry Orbach

8:54

Interview about band personalities. Nice comments about Don.

Desperado time.

They've got the piano cranked on this. It's distracting.

I like having Glenn out front at the end like this. You can never see him behind the piano.

There's something magical about that one spotlight on Don during this song.

8:57

Great ending vocal by Henley.

Sniff. Sniff.

What's with that one piece of hair hanging down on his forehead?

Damn, that was good. Great show. Great filming.

Love the bow at the end!

And then it was over.

Let's hope they show the blooper credits!!!!! There's time.

Well, that's It!

Welcome West Coasters. If you want to play along, scroll down to the bottom and read the comments as they happen in your time zone.

This was a lot of fun y'all. Thanks!

They are some modest stills, but should keep you happy until the DVD comes out.
