Don Henley in Today's Dallas Morning News

Don was featured in today's Dallas Morning News. Unfortunately, the DMN now doesn't allow people to read their stories online without a subscription.  Nancy was kind enough to send us the text so that we could summarize it for you.

Don has a baseball cap that says: "Lifeguard Off Duty: Save Yourself"

Don talked about taking his kids to the lake and making them stewards.

He mentioned communting back and forth between Dallas and Nashville where he's been recording.

They are making progress at Caddo.

There's a good history of Don and the Institute's work at the lake and some background on what the lake meant to Don's parents.

Best quote? "“I’ve put in too much blood, sweat and tears for this to be a hobby. A hobby is supposed to be fun,” he says. “It’s rarely fun because there’s always something to worry about; there’s always somebody trying to mess with the lake.”

Just announced.....Don will be performing at the Mountain Winery near San Francisco, CA on September 21st.  Tickets are $189.50 to $59.50 and go on sale Monday, May 9th.  

Eagles to Play City of Hope Benefit

Paul Cashmere has details of the City of Hope Benefit honoring Irving and Shelli Azoff on May 7th.

The Azoff’s will receive The Spirit Award, the City of Hope’s highest philanthropic honor at Universal Studios with the Eagles performing at the Gibson Amphitheatre at the site.

Proceeds from the day will benefit lifesaving research, treatment and education programs for cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases at City of Hope.

JD Souther New Album

JD Souther's website has sent  a press release that his new album, "Natural History" will be out May 31st. It sounds really cool! From the release:

Natural History is Souther’s first album since 2008’s If the World Was You, which was his first studio album in 25 years. Of Souther’s triumphant return to recorded music, the LA Weekly praised, “Showing no rustiness, Souther displays a sagely touch, smoothly blending pop, jazz, country, soul and Latin rock on lovely ballads…observational tales…and personal epics,” while The Tennessean asserted “Souther has now emerged with what is either the jazziest singer-songwriter record of our time or the most literate and lyrically sophisticated new jazz record on the market.”

Numerous posts on Twitter indicate that Don spoke at Southern Methodist University in Dallas today. No indication on what he talked about, but many students were excited to meet him.

Don Henley at Grammys On the Hill

We haven't seen a news report yet, but both WireImage and Getty Images have some nice photos form last night's event honoring Don.  Zimbio has some of the same photos, but no watermark.  Reports from Twitter said that Don and Bruce Hornsby performed End of the Innocence.

Don Henley Talks Musicians' Rights

Don Henley is being honored tonight for his work with the Recording Artist's Coalition at the Annual Grammys on the Hill event in Washington, DC.  Don spoke to Politico recently about what he'd like to see Congress do to further artists' rights.

Ashley Mann in Nashville is an invaluble source of information!  Today she's reporting that Don is recording with country legend Dolly Parton.  Can't wait to hear this album!

Joe Walsh at Grit N Groove Festival

It's always a treat when Eagles come to our neck of the woods. Ray Wylie Hubbard's Grit and Groove festival was held down outside of New Braunfels on the banks of the Guadalupe River. It's only about 25 minutes from our house, so we certainly couldn't pass this up.

The venue was a rustic, shaded spot right on the river (the various road crews enjoyed watching bikini clad ladies float by on innertubes for most of the afternoon).

We got there are about 4 and enjoyed some good old blues music from Teenie Hodges and his twelve-year old friend and guitar legend in the making, Cole.

Local favorites Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights put on a great acoustic set and were followed by the tight harmonies of the Trishas. Chris Robinson (of Black Crowes fame) did a far-out acoustic set and then it was time for Joe.

Joe had arrived around 5 and could be seen hob-nobbing backstage with all the performers.

Joe's set was short, but full of energy. He used Ray Wylie Hubbard's band and the Trisha's (complete with pages of typed lyrics and instructions) served as backup singers.

It's great seeing Joe solo. His guitar work is a little more wild than when he plays with the Eagles and he is full of infectious energy the entire show.
